chest, New England oak and pine panelled; of a type popularly known as 'Connecticut Chests' and believed to have originated in that locality; constructed of quartered oak, the hinged lid of pine; the front is divided into three arched panels carved with serrated ornament and framed by ebonized split balusters and round bosses; ends are similarly panelled; stands on extensions of the corner stiles
